Pattie Kobe is a founder and community leader whose work has shaped both business and philanthropic impact across Northwest Indiana for nearly three decades. She is the founder of State of Mind Salon & Day Spa Salon & Day Spa Inc, S.O.M Properties LLC, and the non-profit Spice and Summit Project.
With both her parents and grandparents from the region, She was born in Lake County and grew up in Porter County. Pattie along with her husband of 33 years, Tony, raised their two children, Anton and Kyle in Valparaiso. She brings a deep-rooted connection to NWI and a long-standing commitment to its growth.
At 19, Pattie was recruited by Redken Fifth Avenue, launching a 17-year career on local and national stages where she presented to audiences ranging from 100 to over 10,000 across the United States. This experience shaped her ability to communicate, lead, and connect at scale.
Her community involvement began through Speaking of Women’s Health, a non-profit organization focused on education and advocacy. That experience led to more than a decade of leadership with the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign in Northwest Indiana. Pattie served as committee chair, leading logistics and fundraising initiatives, while State of Mind Salon & Day Spa Salon & Day Spa was aligned as an exclusive salon and spa partner supporting the campaign’s mission. Following her tenure, she continued her work throughout the region by emceeing fundraising events and expanding her advocacy in women’s health and mental health.
As an entrepreneur, Pattie bootstrapped her business, developing a disciplined approach to financial stewardship, strategic growth, and operational leadership. She is also a trusted consultant to community leaders, with expertise in succession planning and bridging generational gaps to effectively lead and understand emerging talent.
Her contributions extend from local public television, Lakeshore Public Media (Lakeshore PBS), to the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority Rose and Rise Awards, where she has supported fundraising and organizational advancement, including being honored by WGN-TV in 2023 and 2025 and featured as an expert in health and wellness.
Rarely overlooking an opportunity to serve her community. Pattie still shows up at local career fairs, in support of Junior Achievement, to sit with middle school students and help them understand the difference between college and vocational paths, offering a real-world perspective beyond the classroom.
Outside of her professional work, Pattie enjoys travel, often by backpack. She is an avid reader and studies history with a particular interest in the Industrial Revolution. If offered a chance to meet anyone from the past, she would choose Lucille Ball as her lunch date.
Pattie Kobe brings a rare combination of entrepreneurial discipline, community leadership, and lived perspective that supports thoughtful governance and the ability to make a meaningful impact.
Her love for leading, learning and being behind the chair is contagious! She’s available to see guests on Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and some Sundays.
